Oranje 88

Jumpers for Goalposts exhibition

I recently took part in a project with AVB Editions to produce a series of screen prints around the subject of football nostalgia – the overall group series was called ‘Jumpers for Goalposts’. There were 11 designers who each produced a limited edition of 11 prints - each one beautifully screen printed by Jessica Hollywood at Seacourt Print Workshop in Bangor.

My print was based around a family connection to Holland and a love of Dutch football. The 88 Dutch jersey was an iconic one - The Netherlands triumphed in the European Championships, their only major trophy win to date (though they came devastatingly close to another one this year!). My print was based on their shirt that year – which also provoked some strong feelings. It seems to be loved and loathed in equal measure though I love it!

The print is A3 and screen printed in two colours with black and neon orange ink.

It was great to be involved in such a lovely project and we had a great opening night which coincided with the first game of the 2014 World Cup. There were good tunes, Dutch beer, Argentinian wine and lots and lots of football chat.

Wij houden van Oranje!
