Giro d'Italia

Big Start 2014

The Giro d'Italia is one of the biggest cycle races in the world and this year the 'Big Start' is taking place in Northern Ireland. The event takes place across 3 days and will see the world's elite cyclists passing some of Northern Ireland's most iconic sights - Titanic Belfast, Stormont, Bushmills, Giant's Causeway, Ballycastle, Armagh and many more. I have been working on the route dressing with NITB which involved creating and illustrating the 'Freddie Forte' character and rolling him out across various materials and along the route.

The Giro d'Italia is known for it's bright pink colour which was originally taken from the paper La Gazzetta dello Sport - the sports newspaper which created the Giro.

Travelling the route the best locations and sites were identified and used to build excitement in the run up to the event. As the Giro d'Italia Big Start approaches, Northern Ireland is turning pink! From churches to schools, flags to banners, Freddie is popping up everywhere and the race will be broadcast to over 150 countries worldwide.
